What Jenni has to say

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO ENROL ON THE OUBEP SUMMER PROGRAMME?

Having worked in mostly technical roles, my economics understanding had come mainly through exploration projects.

What the OUBEP programme offered brought together so many different strands, from the macro to the micro, which would help me to put my professional experience into an economic context.

HOW HAVE YOU USED YOUR LEARNING FROM OUBEP IN YOUR WORK?

I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions on Game Theory and have brought that scenario thinking into some of the my most recent projects.

Sharing experiences with others on the course from different industries (Banking, FMCG, Charity sector) really enriched the discussions.

I also felt OUBEP equipped me to better understand the economic lead up to and fall-out from Liz Truss’s UK PM-ship, which happened in the months following our residential week in Oxford.

WHAT IMPACT HAS COMPLETING THE OUBEP SUMMER PROGRAMME HAD ON YOUR CAREER? AND FOR YOU PERSONALLY?

The content of the course has definitely enriched my professional experiences and with it I feel equipped to ask the right questions across a range of topics and sectors.

My professional network has grown, both inside and outside of my company, and I enjoy being part of the OUBEP alumni community.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEBODY ENROLLING THEMSELVES OR AN EMPLOYEE ON THE OUBEP SUMMER PROGRAMME 2023?

Do the pre-work! Even if you already have a working understanding of economics when you enroll. The content is very well put together and engaging.

During the residential week, OUBEP’s ‘tutorial’ style of teaching is very inclusive and provides a deeper understanding, though you’ll get the most out of it if you come well-prepped.

Also be open to sharing your ‘real life’ experience in the tutorials, as well as listening and learning from others.
