beata javorcik

Our guest lecture was given by Beata Javorcik with the title: ‘Globalisation in Turbulent Times’.

We welcomed Oxford Statutory Professor and EBRD’s Chief Economist, Beata Javorcik as the Keynote Speaker to this event. Beata is a member of the Royal Economic Society’s Executive Committee and a Director of the International Trade Programme at the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London. Before taking up her position at Oxford University, Beata worked at the World Bank in Washington DC, where she focussed on research, lending operations and policy advice.

Beata specialises in international trade. Her research interests focus on determinants and consequences of inflows of foreign direct investment, implications of services liberalisation, evaluation of investment promotion programmes, propagation of shock through production networks and evasion of import duties. We were exceptionally fortunate to have Beata speak at this event.

You can watch Beata’s keynote lecture below.

the yearbook

Here’s a sneak peek of our yearbook which was created last year to celebrate 70 years of OUBEP. Copies will be available during the alumni event, and you can download an online version of the yearbook below.

the history

The history of OUBEP is in many ways the history of changing social attitudes towards business in Britain over the past 71 years.

OUBEP was founded by a group of business leaders during the period following the Second World War – a time of immense political, economic and societal change – “…to bring the ‘leaders of tomorrow’ from the public and private sectors together, to better understand modern economic thinking, and therefore the bigger picture in which they would one day operate.”

Over time, OUBEP has evolved and adapted to meet the requirements of the modern world. However, to this day it maintains its foundational intent to bring together a gathering of bright minds to better understand and discuss the impact of the global economy, and to ultimately benefit business and society.
