Julian Allwood is a Professor of Engineering and the Environment, at Cambridge University & Director, UK FIRES

Lead author of the recent UK FIRES report Absolute Zero, Professor Allwood’s work focuses on material efficiency as a climate mitigation strategy, as well as whole-system analysis of natural resource systems.

Professor Julian Allwood FREng, Professor of Engineering and the Environment at Cambridge University. Author of the 2012 book “Sustainable Materials: with both eyes open”, his research group investigates material demand reduction, novel material saving manufacturing processes and whole-system analysis of energy, land, water and material resource systems. Prof. Allwood is also Director of the UK FIRES group on industrial resource efficiency, whose recent Absolute Zero report has been making waves in the policy sphere.
